Population is People, a Friends Perspective, Stan Becker, Louis Cox, and Lisa L. Gould, eds., 2000. 224 pp., $5.00 —special, while supplies last.

TWENTY-THREE Friends speak from relevant professional, academic, or life experiences as they reflect on a wide range of social and ecological problems that are affected by rapid population growth. The book's purpose is to show the human side of population and the serious social-ecological consequences of current trends. The emphasis is on compassion, understanding, and responsible sharing of world resources as we work together toward population stabilization and well-being for everyone.

Caring for Creation: Reflections on the Biblical Basis of Earthcare, Lisa Lofland Gould. 1999. 96 pp. $8.50.

This book encourages us to seek the spiritual roots of a healthy relationship between humans and the rest of Creation. It is based on five "Bible Half-hour" talks given at the 336th Session of New England Yearly Meeting in August 1996 on the themes of "Celebration","Humility," "Connections," "Right Relationship," and "Stewardship." Drawing on insights from many parts of the Bible, as well as from her background as a biologist, Lisa demonstrates that the Scriptures can be a valid guide to living in right relationship not only with other people but with the whole Community of Life. She includes a study guide for use in adult religious education.

Earthcare for Children, a First Day School Curriculum, Second Edition, by Sandra Farley, Diana Egly, Thomas Farley, 2007, 110 pp. $15.00.

Engaging activities for kindergarten through eighth grade, with relevant scripture readings and suggested songs. A beautifully illustrated book with helpful suggestions for teachers. It consists of 13 chapters or teaching units, exploring from a Friends' spiritual perspective such topics as soil, seeds, seasons, water, air & climate, the web of life, carrying capacity, caring & responsibility, and working with others to care for the earth. It includes suggestions for teachers, extra activities, and take-home pages for children. Watercolor illustrations are by Sandra Farley.

Earthcare for Friends, a Study Guide for Individuals and Faith Communities, Louis Cox, Ingrid Fabianson, Sandra Moon Farley, and Ruah Swennerfelt, eds. 2004, 270 pp. $18.00.

This study guide is designed to help Friends understand specific ways that human activities have been despoiling the earth, God's creation, and how this damage is intensified by today's materialistic culture; different ways of living and thinking that can bring harmony among humans and between humans and the natural world; why stewardship—living in ways that protect the health of the earth—is necessary for a vital relationship with God and others; what the Bible, Christian tradition, and Quaker tradition teach about care for the earth and its inhabitants; how Earthcare is a natural expression of the historic Quaker testimonies of peace, equality, justice, simplicity, and integrity; the remarkable convergence of modern science and faith traditions in understanding that all things are ultimately connected.
